Enthusiasts of Transformers well remember Transformers: The Movie, that followed on the heels of the very profitable child's animation from the eighties. Equally as memorable to the Transformers target audience is the super-villain from the cartoon movie, Unicron, the eater of planets. In spite of this, it was not until 2003 that Hasbro unveiled a Unicron action figure despite the fact that the character was introduced in the mid-80s.

The Original Unicron

Since the 2nd season of the Transformers cartoon TV series concluded, makers of Transformers: The Movie wanted a brand new "bad guy" to take Transformers to the next level. The solution turned into a large, planet-sized damaging robot known as Unicron.

Within the storyline of Transformers: The Movie, Unicron offered the conquered Decepticon leader, Megatron, new forces and a completely new body so as to enact Megatron's retribution on Optimus Prime and the Autobots.

Generally known as the Cybertronian God of Darkness and Chaos, Chaos Bringer and Universal Dominator, the transformer Unicron's real target was to get the Autobots out of his way. After Unicron was beaten in the long run his head evolved into a brand new moon on the transformer's home planet, Cybertron, and following that, the Transformers tale continued with Unicron now as a staple villain, but only in the Japanese versions which succeeded the American shows and film. Just like great villains though, Unicron was depressed but not out in the U.S.

The Unicron Trilogy

The creators of Transformers eventually capitalized on their introduction of a brand-new villain, creating what would end up being the Unicron Trilogy: Transformers: Armada, Transformers: Energon and Transformers: Cybertron. You may actually declare that Unicron was re-introduced in to the story, but hardcore fans that kept on top of Transformers in the beginning and abroad were no stranger to the persona.

The current transformers Unicron debuted in the early 2000s with much of the same qualities of its first representation. Even though in the Unicron trilogy, the planet-sized villain only ruins and soaks up planetary energy rather than eating them as the eighties variation could.

Additionally, the newest model of Unicron had more evil qualities and fed from the carnage of conflict involving the Autobots and the Decepticons. As a twist in the Unicron trilogy, the two groups of the warring transformers put their differences aside and joined forces in order to stop Unicron's plot.

Unicron Action Figures

At first, Hasbro, the maker of Transformers toys and games, decided to produce a Unicron figure to overlap with the launch of the film, but the product was never introduced. Unicron toys became readily available on the twentieth anniversary of Transformers: The Movie. A few figures were packaged as deluxe collector's items with comic books contained in the product packaging, but keeping up with the more youthful, modern viewers as well, numerous Unicron models kept with the Transformers tradition and were suitable for age range 5 or over.
